Our Story

His Holiness Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji, Peethadhipati of Avadhoota DattaPeetham, Mysore, India, visited San Jose, Yosemite and Mt.Shasta during August 2009. During this visit Sri Swamiji instructed the local coordinators of Bay Area Satsang Group to form an organization, similar to Datta Yoga Center, and call it Dashavatara Yoga Center. While in the air enroute to Mt. Shasta on August 6, 2009, Sri Swamiji pointed out an area where He envisioned the future of Dashavatara Center; location of this area was somewhere in the rolling hills above East Bay Area.

Sri Swamiji 2009 Visit

During the weekend of August 1 and 2, Sri Chakra Puja, Maha Ganapati Homa, and Divya Naama Sankeertana were held as part of the public events.Sri Swamiji concluded the public events and started on His divine journey to Mount Shasta. Enroute there were stops at Yosemite National Park from August 4 and 5, 2009. On the morning of August 5, near the YosemiterPark and Merced River, Sri Swamiji advised that Dashavatara Yoga Center should be formed officially as part of a non-profit organization.

During His return trip from Yosemite, Sri Swamiji went down into the Merced River and performed puja and water offering to Sun God and River God (arghayam). Sri Swamiji then blessed the small group of six devotees who had accompanied Him to Yosemite National Park. While in the air enroute to Mt. Shasta on August 6, 2009, Sri Swamiji pointed out an area where He envisioned the Dashavatara Center; location of this area was somewhere in the rolling hills above East Bay Area. Sri Swamiji arrived in Mt. Shasta town on the evening of August 6, 2009.

Later that morning Sri Swamiji gave a discourse and Omkara chanting to group of devotees gathered at a local school hall. Sri Swamiji explained the deep secret of Mt. Shasta, how it is like the “mini Himalayas” with its own spiritual significance; He explained how Mt. Shasta was similar to the Kailasha in Himalayas and how the small spring was similar to the river Ganga, in that He experienced similar vibrations in Mt. Shasta as He had in the Himalayas. He explained why He had set His divine feet there- to meet and communicate with an ancient Saints and Yogis who has been in meditation there for thousands of years. At approximately 12 noon the Omkara chanting was commenced so that it could be continued till 1pm and coincide with the preselected 12:34:56pm PST. Sri Swamiji spoke about how our chanting as a group at that particular moment in time had the power to shake the world. Thus concluded another wonderful and profound spiritual visit by Sri Swamiji to Northern California during the first week of August 2009. This trip of Sri Swamij will be most fondly remembered by the local devotees as the unofficial beginning of the Dashavatara Yoga Center, before it was officially organized as a non-profit organization.
